Yang Shen is a senior Ph.D. Candidate in Robotics at the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, University of California Los Angeles (UCLA).

His current research interests include medical robotics, human movement analysis, and physical human-robot interaction (pHRI). Collaborators include Jacob Rosen, Ph.D., Ji Ma, Ph.D., Bruce Dobkin, M.D., Clarisa Martinez, D.P.T., etc.

Yang spent his recent summer at Menlo Park, CA as a Robotic Software Engineering Intern with a wearable robotics company Seismic, which was known as SuperFlex, a spinoff from SRI International. His previous research experience includes: analytical microfluidics and innovative fuel cells with Jin Xuan, Ph.D. and Dennis Leung, Ph.D.; heat and mass transfer with Y. Sungtaek Ju, Ph.D.

Yang teaches extensively in Robotics, Systems Engineering, Engineering Management, and MEMS. He actively serves as a reviewer for 20+ journals and conferences (~100 times), and an associate editor for one conference. He was a feature editor for ACM XRDS Magazine from 10/2015 to 10/2018.

Yang holds his dual bachelor degrees from Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU, B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering & Automation, 2009-2011) and the University of Hong Kong (HKU, B.Eng. in Mechanical Engineering, 2011-2013). He has been living in Los Angeles, CA since then.

Yang reads, writes, drives, and swims daily.
